Check as follows:
- Visually inspect the coolant level.
- Examine the results.
- If the coolant level is within an acceptable range, check insufficient radiator air circulation; refer to “11.2 Insufficient Radiator Air Circulation” .
- If the coolant level is not within an acceptable range, fill coolant system to correct level; refer to the EPA07 DD15 Workshop Manual (DDC-SVC-MAN-0002), “Preventive Maintenance” chapter.
ENGINE EXHAUST To avoid injury from inhaling engine exhaust, always operate the engine in a well-ventilated area. Engine exhaust is toxic.
- Start and run the engine.
- Run the engine through its operating range with no-load for approximately 5 minutes, allowing the engine coolant to reach normal operating range.
- If the engine coolant temperature is 85-95°C (185-203°F). Shut down the engine and go to the next step.
- If the engine coolant temperature is above 85-95°C (185-203°F), shut down the engine. Check for insufficient radiator air circulation; refer to “11.2 Insufficient Radiator Air Circulation” .
- Pressure test the cooling system with a pressure tester.
- Check for external leaks on the engine, radiator, all coolant hoses and the heater core in the cab.
- Repair any external leaks and go to the next step.
- If there are no external leaks perform the procedure found in section “11.2 Insufficient Radiator Air Circulation” .
- Start and run the engine.
- Run the engine through its operating range with no-load for approximately five minutes allowing the engine coolant to reach normal operating range.
- If engine the coolant temperature is 85-95°C (185-203°F). Shut down the engine no further troubleshooting is required.
- If the engine coolant temperature is above 85-95°C (185-203°F), shut down the engine. Check for insufficient radiator air circulation.Refer to “11.2 Insufficient Radiator Air Circulation” .
