Check as follows:
- Clean the engine.
- Start and run the engine to operating temperature 88°C (190°F).
- Check for leaks at oil lines, connections, mating joints, seals, and gaskets. It may be necessary to remove some components to do these checks.
- If no oil leaks are found, refer to “4.3 Defective Turbocharger” to continue troubleshooting.
- If oil leaks are found, shut down the engine; go to the next step.
- Repair or replace components leaking oil; refer to the EPA07 DD15 Workshop Manual (DDC-SVC-MAN-0002), lubrication system chapter.
- Start and run the engine to operating temperature 88°C (190°F).
- Shut down the engine.
- Check the engine for oil leaks.
- If no oil leaks are observed, no further troubleshooting is required Retest for oil consumption.
- If external oil leaks are still present, repeat steps 3 through 6.
